Hey there NCECA friends!
My name is Lauren Skelly, I’m a current graduate student at Rhode Island School of Design, in the ceramics program. I am very excited to be your Resident Foodie and Rhody guide for this year’s NCECA. My goal every week is to post 2-3 sweet/savory spots from around town along with some helpful tips about Providence and hopefully through your feedback answer any Rhody questions you might have.
Our first restaurant to be on the lookout for is Rogue Island, located in the Arcade, downtown, Providence! The arcade is considered the original mall of Providence, housing several fun shops, pubs and apartments. Rogue Island is on the Weybosset Street side of the Arcade across from the Hampton Inn. It’s roughly a 5-10 minute walk from the convention center. Rogue Island is known for their farm to table style menu, plenty of local craft beers, and a great assortment of savory, salty treats if that’s your fancy! I highly recommend their duck fat fried wings, with mango habanero, buttermilk ranch, and blue cheese foam. These wings are hot, a smidge sweet, and come with pickled celery which is perfectly tart to cut through the heat. If you’re looking for a special beverage they have plenty of great picks, local beers and great Yacht Club sodas. Looking to step up that appetizer to a meal. Look no further than their burgers, which are made fresh to order with an endless supply of add-ons. They also have great salads and sandwiches. Make sure to save room for dessert! Once in while they have a S’mores sundae that includes, marshmallow ice cream, espresso infused marshmallows, graham-cracker crumbles and chocolate syrup. A great ending to any meal at Rogue Island.
