first time NCECA goer - what should I do?« Back to Questions List

Hi! Im a ceramics major going to NCECA for the first time. I'm driving down and have an Airbnb all set, Im just not sure what events to prioritize. Im not going to have a lot of spending money and I'd like go see the children's museum 1) mister rogers selfie 2)pick the brains of whoever is in charge of the accessible wheel program in their studio.

Welcome to NCECA in advance! Almost everyone will have a different answer about what to prioritize, but probably most people will include a trip into the resource hall on their list. You can talk to a lot of non-profit clay studios in there as well as wheel manufacturers about your accessibility needs. I think the gallery openings on Thursday night are great. Definitely try for the NCECA show reception, and a personal favourite of mine is the Cone Box show. There’s some GREAT programming, mostly on THursday and Friday, but also good informal sessions on Wednesday, including the NCECA for first time attendees Q&A session – good place to meet a friend with whom to navigate the conference! Saturday has some programming as well, The Emerging artists and the closing lecture are really dynamite. There is SO much at NCECA, and you can’t do it all, but you’ll probably get a lot out of anything you chose there.
